Joseph McKeown

Mr. McKeown joined IRI in late 2017 in the role of Vice President, Technical & Marine Safety. In March 2021, Mr. McKeown was promoted to Senior Vice President, Management Systems Certification (MSC), where his responsibilities include oversight of International Safety Management and International Ship and Port Facility Security Code Audits, Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, inspections, Inventory of Hazardous Materials survey reviews, and other MSC related services to clients. Prior to joining IRI, he served as Operations Director and Fleet Technical Director at V.Ships USA in Florida for 10 years, and was responsible for the third-party management of various vessel types and sizes. Prior to relocating to Florida, Mr. McKeown held the position of Technical Director for Celtic Pacific UK Ltd in Southampton, England, responsible for a fleet of four cruise vessels, and also the positions of Fleet Manager and Senior Technical Superintendent with V.Ships UK (Southampton and Glasgow) since 1996. During this period, he was also appointed as Project Manager for the planning and construction of four large roll-on/roll-off passenger vessels in Sevilla, Spain. Before settling into a shore based position, he was previously sailing on a wide variety of dry and wet cargo vessel types. He sailed with Denholm Ship Management, starting as an Engineer Cadet and progressing through the ranks to Chief Engineer after gaining his UK Class 1 License in 1989. He then joined V.Ships in 1991 sailing as Chief Engineer on oil, product, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and ethylene tankers.
