Captain John Hafner

Captain Hafner was promoted to Vice President, Seafarers’ Manning & Training in July 2013. He joined IRI’s Ft. Lauderdale office as Seafarers’ Manning & Training Manager in July 2010, transferred to the Long Beach office in 2020, and in the fall of 2023 transferred to the Baltimore/Annapolis office. He brings over 25 years of maritime experience, most recently as a National Executive Board Member for American Maritime Officers (AMO). Prior to AMO, Captain Hafner worked as a Master Mariner for American Roll-on Roll-off Carriers. He also worked as Chief Officer for almost 10 years aboard numerous ro-ro, container and break-bulk vessels. Captain Hafner served in the US Naval Reserve for 30 years, retiring with the rank of Captain in 2016. He has been awarded the Admiral of the Ocean Sea (AOTOS) Award and has twice been awarded the Merchant Marine Expeditionary Medal. He received his B.S. in Marine Transportation Management at the State University of New York Maritime College.
