Nautical inspectors from across India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka were brought up-to-date on the latest international requirements and provided with guidance on verifying compliance on Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) flagged ships at a seminar in Mumbai, India this March.
Organized by International Registries, Inc. and its affiliates (IRI), which provide administrative and technical support to the RMI Maritime and Corporate Registries, the event was moderated by Captain Sanjay Maini, Country Head, IRI Mumbai.
The rapid growth of the RMI Registry has been underpinned by consistent quality levels across the fleet and the inspections undertaken worldwide.
Present at the event were John Ramage, Chief Operating Officer, IRI London; Hans Krijger, General Manager, IRI Roosendaal; and Hans Molver, Senior Vice President, Technical, IRI Reston.
The seminar also featured presentations from two (2) eminent guest speakers, Captain L. K. Panda, former Nautical Advisor to the Government of India, and Shri Dilip Mehrotra, Secretary of the Indian Ocean Memorandum of Understanding (IOMoU) on Port State Control who gave insightful presentations on “Human Element and Virtues of a Good Inspection/Inspector” and “Port State Control (PSC) Findings and Detention Trends – Is There a Course Correction?”
Touching upon the inspection objectives of the RMI Registry’s Ship Inspection program, R. Vinod Kumar, Safety & Technical Manager, IRI Mumbai, spoke about the need to identify deviations on board which could lead to serious deficiencies and communicating them to the ship managers and owners.
The seminar also featured a mock inspection drill which was very well received by the attendees.
The seminar was followed by a cocktail and dinner reception later that evening which was attended by about 150 delegates from the industry including the senior management of numerous shipping companies.
