Representatives from IRI/The Marshall Islands Registry this week have engaged with the Argentinian Maritime Authority, visiting the Coast Guard building of the Prefectura Naval Argentina (PNA). The meeting allowed both the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) and PNA delegates to exchange insights on the responsibilities of both flag State and port State, and how their relationship could become even closer.
Brian Poskaitis, Senior Vice President, Fleet Operations; Davis Kong, Fleet Operations Manager; and Captain Luiz Augusto de Freitas, Vice President, South America, met with Rear Admiral Martín Pablo Ruiz, Head, Safety of Navigation Police Directorate and Captain Italo D´Amico, Head, Safety Navigation Department.
The meeting was also a chance for representatives to deliver a presentation on the RMI Registry’s success in becoming the world’s second largest maritime registry, as well as a chance to explain the services that International Registries, Inc. and its affiliates (IRI), which provide administrative and technical support to the RMI Maritime and Corporate Registries, provide to the owners and operators of the RMI fleet. The meeting also allowed for a discussion on the mutual importance of well-trained inspectors and maritime auditors, alongside plans for future cooperation for the benefit of both parties.
Captain Luiz Augusto de Freitas said “this was a fantastic chance to share experience and insights with our port State counterparts and discuss how we can work more closely together in the future. Rear Admiral Martín Ruiz has shown great interest in the way we work as a registry, and has identified many points in common with the PNA. The Rear Admiral was kind enough to offer us the PNA´s facilities for future nautical inspector seminars or training courses, which is a great asset for both sides.”
The RMI delegation will remain in Argentina over the coming days for further meetings with the Argentinian Maritime Authority, local clients, and regional inspectors.
