The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Registry has seen a series of exciting registrations of groundbreaking vessels from Japanese owners in recent months. As the fifth largest shipowning group in the RMI, Japanese owners are an integral part of the Registry’s success.
Over the course of 2017, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) saw the delivery of some of the world’s largest containerships, sister ships MOL TRIUMPH, MOL TRUST, MOL TRIBUTE, and MOL TRADITION. The 20,000 TEU mega containers, built by Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., in South Korea are 400 meters (m) in length and equipped with the latest energy-saving technologies.
In March 2018, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line) received delivery of the world’s largest Moss-type LNG transport vessel, PACIFIC BREEZE. Built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., PACIFIC BREEZE has four Moss-type tanks with a total cargo capacity of 182,000 cubic meters (m3). PACIFIC BREEZE will transport LNG from the Ichthys LNG Project in Australia.
