MIQC Meets Again in London

19 June 2023

The Marshall Islands Quality Council (MIQC) held its biannual meeting in June 2023 at Trinity House in London. The MIQC, chaired by Rear Admiral Kevin S. Cook, United States Coast Guard (Retired), is a consultative consortium of industry experts and leaders and gathers biannually to share information, experiences, and awareness on a diverse range of industry issues through open discussion. The June MIQC meeting included MIQC members, invited guest speakers, and Republic of the Marshall Islands Registry personnel.

The June meeting opened with reports from International Registries, Inc.’s (IRI’s) President Bill Gallagher, Chief Maritime Officer Simon Bonnett, and Chief Commercial Officer Theo Xenakoudis. IRI team members from Baltimore / Annapolis, London, Piraeus, Reston, and Roosendaal presented on a variety of topics at the meeting including regulatory updates, an overview of the latest port State control trends, and more. Invited guests Dominick Donald, Senior Advisor, Herminius™ Holdings Limited; Frederick Kenney, Director of Legal & External Affairs, International Maritime Organization (IMO); and Stephen Gordon, Managing Director (Clarksons Research) participated in a follow-up panel discussion from the last MIQC meeting on the geopolitical and practical implications resulting from the Ukraine conflict.

With industry stakeholders and IRI’s team of professionals together, the MIQC meetings create an opportunity for discussion, information sharing, and thinking beyond the confines of a single organization to address emergent topics in the industry.
