IRI Hosts Nautical Inspector Seminar in Manila

11 April 2023

The Manila office of International Registries, Inc. and its affiliates (IRI) held a Nautical Inspector (NI) Seminar in March 2023. The three-day seminar, hosted by Leo Bolivar, Country Manager – The Philippines, brought together NIs and stakeholders from across Asia, along with IRI’s global team of fleet operations specialists to discuss regulatory and fleet updates, port State control (PSC) trends, fleet management, and more.

Captain Sascha Dyker, IRI’s Fleet Operations Manager based in Hong Kong opened the seminar. Attendees participated in Registry updates and technical presentations from: Brian Poskaitis, Senior Vice President, Fleet Operations (IRI Baltimore / Annapolis); Richard Dias, Regional Technical Manager (IRI Hong Kong); Thomas Bremer, Vice President, Fleet Quality and Compliance (IRI Baltimore / Annapolis); Vinod Kumar, Fleet Operations Manager (IRI Mumbai); and Allan Cabantog, Regional Manager, Seafarers’ Services (IRI Manila). Flag State Inspector Gaurav Dewan, based in Australia, provided an overview on the critical items checklist and other tools to support safe vessel operation that can be utilized during an inspection.

Representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard attended the seminar, presenting on regional PSC activities as well as updates from the Tokyo Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

With several hundred inspections conducted annually throughout Asia, the NI seminar provided inspectors from around the region a chance to learn, engage, and strengthen their skillset with the fleet operations team. The meeting also served to further discussions about engagement with owner/operator crew seminars and other types of client outreach. NI seminars are held around the world in key inspection regions to support the professional development of the global inspections team.
