IRI/The Marshall Islands Registry participated in the 2019 National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) Seafloor Investigations Workshop in Ashburn, Virginia. President Bill Gallagher and Senior Vice President, Maritime Administration / Regulatory Affairs Nick Makar joined IRI’s whole investigations team. The workshop brought together more than 60 individuals from government agencies and private sector companies to review case studies, share best practices, and strengthen working relationships which are crucial during a seafloor investigation. Experts spoke at three panels during the workshop: Aviation Investigations at the Seafloor, Marine Investigations at the Seafloor, and Planning for Seafloor Investigations. Marine Investigations Manager Alan Blume served as a panelist for the Planning for Seafloor Investigations panel. The three-panel sessions provided excellent insight into the logistics and the workflow processes related to deep-sea searches and investigations, increasing the understanding of the challenges faced in seafloor investigations.
