International Registries, Inc. and its affiliates (IRI), which provide administrative and technical support to the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Maritime and Corporate Registries held a joint seminar with Korean industry stakeholders in Athens last week where the future of shipping was discussed.
After opening statements from Ahn Young-Jip, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Greece, the seminar quickly moved into a discussion including IRI representatives and stakeholders from the Korean shipping industry. The topics included: fixed premiums and tailored products introduced by Bay Moon, Chief Operating Officer (Korea P&I); the Global Sulphur Oxide (SOx) Cap with Hyuntae Kim, Senior Surveyor (Korean Register of Shipping (KR)); and insights into new bulk carrier design in Korea from Yoon-Jung Hur, Senior Surveyor (KR).
Similarly, the afternoon session saw the dialogue continued with “Assuring the Future with Korean Re” by Austin W.S. Jung, General Manager, Head of Marine (Korean Reinsurance Company); State-of-the-Art Boil-off Gas (BOG) Handling Technologies of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering’s (DSME’s) Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) Carrier from Nam-Soo Kim, Director (DSME); and 2020 Global Sulphur Cap: A Regulatory Perspective (History, Current Status, and the International Maritime Organization’s Work Plan for Effective Implementation) delivered by Nick Makar, Regulatory Affairs Advisor (IRI).
The seminar was followed by an insightful Q&A session and then a cocktail reception. Theo Xenakoudis, Director, Worldwide Business Operations (IRI), senior moderator for the event, said:
