Michinori Kurihara

Mr. Kurihara joined IRI in January 2023 and was appointed as Representative in April 2023. In 1986 he joined the maritime industry serving in ship design roles for 20 years with Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd. before concluding his career there as part of the production planning and technical group. Mr. Kurihara joined Lloyd’s Register (LR) in 2006 as a Ship Surveyor (design appraisal) and spent the next 16 years at LR in various roles, concluding as Principal Surveyor, General Manager of Japan Marine & Offshore based out of LR’s Yokohama office. His expertise with LR was in ship classification and regulatory requirements with specific knowledge of the international conventions. Mr. Kurihara has a comprehensive knowledge of cargo gears including cargo handling system and operation on tankers as well. He holds a Bachelor of Naval Architecture from Osaka University.
