John Taverner

Mr. Taverner joined IRI’s London office in September 2014 as Safety & Technical Manager, was promoted to General Manager in February 2015, and became Director, Quality Assurance in October 2023. Prior to joining IRI, Mr. Taverner spent 34 years at Lloyd’s Register (LR), where he held a variety of positions with responsibilities relating to structural analysis and development of LR’s rules and regulations. In his final position with LR as Principal Specialist for Governmental Affairs, he was responsible for maintaining relationships with flag States worldwide, including all agreements for delegation of statutory certification services. He is a former chairman of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) General Policy Group and has represented IACS and the UK at IMO meetings. Mr. Taverner spent 25 years in the Territorial Army serving as a Transport and Logistics Specialist and later as the Commandant of the Army Cadet Force in South West London. He holds a B.S. in Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding from Newcastle University.
