An overview of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments was delivered by Dr. Theofanis Karayannis, Technical Officer, Marine Environment Division, International Maritime Organization at the Panel Discussion on Ballast Water Management (BWM) presented by the Republic of the Marshall Islands Registry in November. The overview and panel discussion followed the conclusion of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) 70. MEPC 71 takes place 3-7 July 2017 and will consider a draft code for approval of ballast water management systems.
